MDS Blog Hop - What we're up to!

Well folks, it's nearly August! Being on bed rest I haven't been able to do all the fun things with the my boys that I normally do, so it feels like we haven't had much of a summer at all.  Can't believe there are only a few weeks left.

Around here we don't start school until after Labor Day, but lucky for my kids I'm on top of things this time around.  Usually - at the last minute - I remember that I haven't made their signs for 'First Day of School' pictures.  I could keep it simple and just print out a quick sign, but... the designer in me just can't leave well enough alone.  Besides, MDS is so easy to use that it seems a shame not to dress things up a little.

I bought the Back To School kit when it was on sale a little while ago and was so excited to use it for this project.  I love that I can choose whatever size I need for a project - 8x10, 11x14, etc.  It works perfectly for something like this.  I started with my background paper and a few stamps and then kept adding embellishments and text until I was happy with the outcome.  It really didn't take very long which is great, because I still need to make a Kindergarten Sign.

Once I'm done with the design, I print it at Kinko's and have them mount it on foam board for me.  The signs hold up really well and I won't have to design a new one for each kid every year. I can just pull out the right one and we're ready to go!

I'm really not the greatest photographer, but here are the signs I've made for previous years. You'll get the idea.

You probably noticed that I didn't use Stampin' Up downloads for these last signs, but that's because  at the time they didn't really have any downloads that would work.  However, I was still able to make them using MDS because it's really easy to use other downloads from other sources. I like using Photoshop, but I'm much more savvy with MDS and it's nice not having to switch back and forth between programs.  :)

And on with the rest of the hop - enjoy!

Brilliant! I have a whole file of "contraband" downloads--there's a lot of cute stuff out there (and free!!!)

Lol Cori, I was wondering the same thing! I have this sneaking suspicion that I'll only be making signs through elementary school. Haha!

So true Julie - I can't stop myself. I have way too much in my digital stash!

Oh, these are so fun. Love those back to school smiles, and I'm sure the signs prompted them well.
